SCOPE OF WORK

This project diverts water flow via a diversion weir and intake structure on the Jimmie Creek, through a pressure pipeline on the banks of the creek, to a surface powerhouse near the confluence of Jimmie Creek and the Toba River. The outflow from the powerhouse returns to the creek via a tailrace leading to locations upstream of three natural fish barriers. The Jimmie Creek facility is connected to the existing 230 kV transmission line which runs from the existing East Toba Powerhouse to the BC Hydro Transmission system at Saltery Bay.

Hazelwood Construction provided installation of the bifurcation and penstock which consists of approximately 2.6km long, 2.2m to 2.4m nominal diameter, buried and exposed steel pipe, including a 40m long pipe bridge. Specifically, this included:

  • Installation of the bifurcation and penstock which consists of approximately 2.7km long, 2.1m to 2.4m nominal diameter, buried and exposed steel pipe with one or more creek crossings.
  • Installation of 2,600m of 2.2m to 2.4m welded steel pipe (bell-spigot and butt welded joints)
  • Construction of penstock road and spur roads for access
  • Felling, clearing and grubbing of penstock alignment
  • Overburden and rock excavation of penstock trench and roadway
  • Processing and placement of construction aggregates and production of coarse concrete aggregate for others
  • 40m long x 2.2m diameter steel pipe bridge across Jimmie Creek c/w concrete anchor block, support wall, saddle and expansion joint
  • Design, supply and installation of cathodic protection system
